Art + Design: London 2012 - Gold Medal Winner Stamps
For any stamp lovers or collectors out there it will come as sublime news that for every Gold medal Team GB obtains at this Summers London Olympics, the tremendous feat will be commemorated with a limited edition 'Gold Medal Winner''s stamp. The announcement was brought to our attention yesterday afternoon upon watching Sky News. The stamps which are set to be designed by Royal Mail, will be distributed the lunchtime following the event that has been won by a Great Britain competing athlete at 500 selected Post Offices across the UK, and will subsequently be distributed to 4500 Post Offices during the London games. These stamps will feature the gold medalist in motion as they achieve the ultimate goal, as pictured in the illustration above. Former Olympic Champion Sally Gunnell MBE is the lady who is posing with the large size stamp, and she is the ambassador who launched this latest Olympic campaign and the stamps do look pretty good we must say. With us having won 19 Gold medals at the 2008 Summer Olympics there is great pressure at this year's home event to perform, our question is how many of these stamps will end up being made this year? Let's hope it's enough to not leave this looking like a bit of an embarrassment!
